Abortion Advocates Tactics
Promoting abortion is the biggest challenge in advertising today. A false narrative is a must lest women perceive the reality of abortion. Visuals of their handiwork are hidden at all cost. It is the pro-lifers that want show the world what abortion really looks like. They want the truth out.
In Ireland right now, that is especially hard to accomplish. The May 25 referendum on whether or not to remove the right to life of the unborn from its constitution, known as the Eighth Amendment, can no longer be advertised on social media as of May 9. Since the other media outlets are liberal and promote abortion, the social media blackout has a disproportionate impact making it much harder for pro-lifers to get their message out now.
Here are the other, usual ways that abortion advocates run from the truth.
Make a lot of noise. Again, we are seeing that in Ireland. One big event, “Fashion Is Repealing,” was a fashion hoopla with pro-abortion messages on the garments. “It was a visual statement, but not solely of the fashion kind,” The New York Times reported. Visual statement? Bold words on clothing are not the real visual.
Run for Cover. If they were not afraid of the truth, the abortion advocating liberal media outlets would not have to ignore news where women die from botched abortions, or facilities shut down due to extensive health code violations such as this one in California, or ignore the Kermit Gosnell and his house of horrors story. What other possible reason would they have to not cover sensational news?
Be Angry. It scares people away. I think many are really angry at the people who let them down. I have interviewed women who wanted their babies but were heavily pressured to abort by parents or partners.
Deny. Abortion advocates turn a cold shoulder to women suffering physical or emotional effects after an abortion. If they acknowledge the negative aftermath that can surface immediately or years later, it would crack open the door to reality.
In her second book, The Walls Are Talking: Former Abortion Clinic Workers Tell Their Story, one woman shared the story of Angie, a patient who had nine abortions and bragged about it. But reality hit after a staffer complied with her request: “Hey, do you mind if I see it?”
Looking at her 13-week-old baby in parts, Angie was horrified and began to sob uncontrollably: “That’s a baby,” she cried. “That was my baby.”
Lie. Lying is used to convince people who want to be convinced. For instance, even though the undercover videos filmed by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) showed top Planned Parenthood employees admitting to selling body parts and performing illegal abortions, they keep lying in the face of clear evidence. Former abortion workers report that lying is a mainstay of the industry on many levels.
Delude Reality. The latest twist is calling abortion prolife. You read that right. Danielle Campoamor, an editor and pro-abortion columnist at two highly rated women’s sites has received an award from Planned Parenthood for promoting abortion rights. She is pregnant and has a 3-year old, but at age twenty-three she went to an abortion facility and “a few hours later, came out with my future back in my control.” It makes her angry that some women went into crises pregnancy centers and were tricked into carrying their unplanned pregnancies to term. (I seriously doubt some of the claims, but remember, this is a mother angry that she didn’t abort her 15-year-old—lucky child.)
She said that before legal abortions, women frequently died from illegal ones and that restriction on abortions increases maternal mortality rates. How strange to use maternal mortality due to childbirth as a reason to promote abortion. The more babies that are aborted, the less women will die in childbirth is crazy logic. Between childbirth mortality and deaths that would occur from illegal abortions, Campoamor claims that therefore, the abortion advocates are the ones who are really pro-life; not people against aborting babies.
We count differently. An estimated 59.1 million babies in the U.S. have been aborted since 1973. According to the World Health Organization, every year in the world there are an estimated 40-50 million abortions or around 125,000 per day. And who is counting the women that commit suicide or have their lives fall apart due to unhealed wounds from abortion?
Many believe that abortion really helps people. In the article, “Tending to the Wounds of Abortion” former abortion advocates explain that they thought they were doing the right thing. Yet, some people clearly know the truth but have deadened their consciences to the point that they can see and even kill unborn babies and remain unmoved.
Pamela Whitehead, project manager and prayer team coordinator for And Then There Were None (ATTWN), a ministry to help abortion workers leave the industry, said: “It’s very easy to forget sometimes that these are normal people. They are moms and dads. They are friends. They have families. They are all worthy of redemption and forgiveness.”
We also know that many influential pro-life leaders once performed or supported abortion. Through our prayers and God’s grace, the truth can reach them.
