I think there are several actions that are imperative and urgent:

1. Everyone of us must examine our consciences on the life issue since guilt in this area is not merely upon those who practice contraception, but in all of us who simply wish that certain other people just weren't there. And we all need to go to confession for our sins against life. Maybe we need a special celebration with preaching and instruction with confession like we have at the parish missions, but just dedicated to contraception and abortion.

2. We need vibrant pro-life ministries with NFP education in every parish.

3. We need to reach teens with the pro-life message because they are the ones who will swing the pendulum in the future.

And just as an afterthought, legalizing abortion has opened the door to not only euthanasia of the elderly and the handicapped, but to anyone deemed undesirable. Hitler moved quickly from small groups of the defenseless to millions. People here and now in America seem to want to quickly move from millions to untold numbers by expanding the category from the unborn and the dying to the still living.

In your opinion, Mary, how do we best promote the culture of life so that America clamors for a reversal of these laws and a reaffirmation of the belief in Creator-endowed inalienable rights and protection of and respect for the integrity of all persons since we are made in the image and likeness of God?

Since some seek to label pro-life activists as terrorists, I imagine it won't be long until the government exercises its power to indefinitely detain "terrorists" who refuse to obey the new healthcare mandate. Or who pray the Rosary silently outside abortion clinics. Soon we may face the very real possibility of Christians being jailed simply for being Christian, or preaching the Gospel.

America has had discrimination against Catholics before, but so far no purge. With laws like this, persecutions like in England and a purge like in France become very real possibilities. In fact, they become very real possibilities for more than just Catholics. Any group not bowing to the might of the government may run the risk of being labeled, imprisoned indefinitely, and never seen again.

We really need to get a tighter grip on who we allow into public office, expecially who we allow to make laws. We don't need to become another Nazi Germany or Communist China.

Mary, excellent logic, especially this: "If Roe v Wade established the legal principle that a person may be deprived of life without due process, the “rape exception” goes even further by establishing the legal principle that the innocent may be put to death for someone else’s crime." Phew. How can much of America remain so willfully ignorant of this astonishing injustice? Thanks for posting this. <>< Heidi
