Poem: “The Luckiest Tree”

The Luckiest Tree

I am just a simple tree
Though prouder you could never be,
For near the outskirts of Bethany
I hosted the Holy Family.

Exhausted from their jaunting journey
To Bethlehem town, by Caesar’s decree
The woman with Child and husband, three
Fleeing the sun sought me, sought me!

That day still lurked in my memory
When on the summit of Calvary
I was shocked to find that mother-to-be
As I supported her Son for all to see.

I consider myself the luckiest tree
Who was given a double destiny:
To shade my Savoir with shrubbery,
And uphold Him in His agony.
